Wiki 10 – T.S. Eliot & The Crisis of Meaning

📝 Wiki 10
T.S. Eliot & The Crisis of Meaning
📚 Collaborative Wiki Task
Build a collaborative academic overview of T.S. Eliot's representation of the modern crisis of meaning, focusing on fragmentation, alienation, disillusionment, myth, allusion, and poetic experimentation.
🔎 Areas to Develop
1. Historical Context: Explain how the modernist period and the aftermath of World War I contributed to cultural uncertainty, disillusionment, and the loss of traditional values.

2. The Crisis of Meaning: Define the concept of the “crisis of meaning” and explain how it appears in Eliot's poetry through alienation, spiritual emptiness, uncertainty, and fragmentation.

3. The Waste Land: Examine how fragmentation, multiple voices, allusions, imagery, and myth are used to represent a fractured modern world.

4. The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock: Explore themes of isolation, hesitation, insecurity, paralysis, and the individual's difficulty in finding meaning in modern life.

5. Myth and Intertextuality: Explain how Eliot uses literary, cultural, and mythical references to organize and respond to cultural fragmentation.

6. Modernist Poetic Form: Identify key formal techniques such as fragmentation, shifting voices, allusion, imagery, and non-linear structure, and explain how they contribute to Eliot's representation of modernity.
💡 Guiding Question
How does T.S. Eliot use fragmented poetic form to represent the psychological, spiritual, and cultural crisis of modern life?
👥 Participation Instructions
Each student should contribute to at least one section of the wiki. Contributions should be concise, academically relevant, and clearly connected to the lecture. Students may add explanations, examples, concepts, or analyses from The Waste Land and The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. They should also review and improve existing contributions when necessary.
🎯 Expected Outcome
By completing this collaborative wiki, students will develop a shared academic resource explaining how Eliot's themes and formal innovations express the fragmentation, alienation, and crisis of meaning associated with literary Modernism.
