General Objectives


By the end of this module, students will be able to:

  1. Explain fundamental ethical theories and deontological principles relevant to educational contexts (primarily covered in Unit1, also addressed in Unit5, reinforced in Unit14)
  2. Apply ethical frameworks to analyze and resolve complex dilemmas in language teaching settings (Covered in Unit2, applied in Unit3, developed further in Unit10, and culminates in Unit14)
  3. Demonstrate awareness of professional responsibilities and boundaries in academic environments (addressed in Unit7, also covered in Unit10, and reinforced in Unit12)
  4. Analyse cultural and linguistic dimensions of ethical practice in English language education (Central to Unit2, thoroughly explored in Unit11, also addressed in Unit13)
  5. Evaluate ethical implications of educational policies, assessment practices, and technological innovations (Primary focus of Unit4, addressed in Unit5, explored in Unit9)
  6. Articulate personal ethical stances on key issues in contemporary education (specifically addressed in Unit12, and culminates in Unit14)
  7. Integrate ethical considerations into curriculum design, assessment, and classroom management (covered in Unit4, addressed in Unit6, and applied in Unit9)
  8. Demonstrate knowledge of institutional codes of conduct and professional ethics in educational settings (addressed in Unit3, covered in Unit8, and explored in Unit10)

  • Define key terminology in educational ethics and deontology
  • Identify at least three relevant ethical principles in educational case studies
  • Differentiate between major ethical frameworks (virtue ethics, consequentialism, deontology)
  • Categorize ethical violations in academic and professional contexts
Analytical Skills


  • Analyze ethical dilemmas using at least two structured decision-making frameworks
  • Evaluate competing ethical claims in educational scenarios
  • Compare and contrast  the cultural dimensions of ethical situations in language teaching contexts 
  • Critique two educational materials from ethical perspectives using established criteria
  • Examine institutional policies through ethical lenses
Practical Application


  • Design two assessment strategies that incorporate three specific ethical standards of fairness
  • Create classroom guidelines that promote academic integrity with clear implementation procedures
  • Develop three approaches to maintain appropriate professional boundaries
  • Implement inclusive teaching practices based on at least four ethical principles in a micro-teaching session
  • Formulate evidence-based responses to three types of ethical breaches in academic settings
Critical Reflection


  • Reflect on personal ethical positions and potential biases through structured journal entries
  • Articulate ethical reasoning behind three pedagogical decisions in a presentation format
  • Document ethical growth through a professional development portfolio
  • Construct a personal code of ethics for teaching practice with justification for each principle
  • Defend ethical choices in two complex educational scenarios through case study analysis by the end of the course
