According to Konstant (2003 :18), the central objective of the five-steps system of reading is to help the reader « gather as much information as possible before [they] select what or have to read » in order to facilitate the understanding of the text and its comprehension. Konstant (ibid.) asserts that readers may get different levels of meaning from the text, and each level entails a different type of reading. It could be literal, implied, or inferred.

The operational objectives :

  • To identify the three main levels of meaning and to define them clearly.
