    -   The distinction between fact and opinion

    -   Scepticism as a major component of CT

    -   L5: Philosophies (paradigms) of research: positivism vs Interpretivism

    -   L6: The scientific method

    -   L7: quantitative/ interpretive research

     Semester two :

     L8: Components of a published research work (an example is provided from both types: quantitative and qualitative research): 

    -   Title / abstract

    -   Introduction

    -   Literature review

    -   Research methodology

    -   Results and discussion

    -   Conclusion




    General goal :

    Is to introduce the students to the methodology of research in social sciences and to demonstrate the application of research to your academic and professional career by using the scientific method. Your understanding of research methods will undoubtdly be useful in your academic career when you conduct an independent research project

    Students must hand in their assignment on Thursday, June 3rd. at 1 , room 02 

    The task : 

    Read the attached PDF file , then answer the following questions: 


    1-    Find in the article the research question (s), and copy it down on the answer sheet.

    2-    What is the research hypothesis of this study? Copy it down

    3-    Identify the variables, and specify the type (independent/ dependent). 

    4-    What type of research is this (positivist/ interpretivist)? Justify your answer.

    5-    what are the ways of knowing/ thinking processes used in the study?

    6-    Do the results  confirm or reject the research hypotheses? Find in the text the passage that explains your answer
