      The present is the outcome of the past, so in order to better understand the present of English literature we are compelled to make recourse to its chronological development throughout history. Moreover, literature is tightly bound to the culture and the society which produce it, hence the historical review of literature will grant us as readers the opportunity to understand human history through literary writings, and unveil the reciprocal relationship of influence between the two.
