Abstract:

This module is named “an Initiation to Civilization and Cultural Texts”, which means that you, students, will know how to identify historical texts and will be able to understand them thanks to the specific terms and periods that you are going to learn in this course. This course will target just two basic abilities; the first is “KNOWLEDGE” and the second is “UNDERSTANDING”, which means that at this stage you are not asked to analyze the texts provided. As 1st year students, you will be introduced to both concepts Civilization and Culture so you can make difference between the terms and their use. You will also have an idea about religions around the world since religion is an important aspect of both civilization and culture. Then, you will have an idea about ancient civilizations where we will focus on their contributions to human development in all different fields, such as art, economy, architecture, astronomy…
