Abstract

The present course titled “Study of Literary Texts” is destined for L1 college students providing a foundational understanding of literary studies by focusing on key theoretical concepts and approaches. It introduces literature as a field of inquiry showing how to examine texts to produce meaning through the use of genre, context, form, devices and language. It is based on making learners familiar with essential terms like: genre, voice, character, narrative, drama, poetry, theme, symbol and many others.  The reasonable selection of literary texts enables students to learn how to read closely, think analytically and articulate various interpretations. The main target of the course is to raise awareness that literature, as a social and cultural entity, is crucial for the critical literacy and the academic argumentation.
