This course is divided into two parts: the theoretical and practical part. In the theoretical part, we have organized five sections to its study. The first section introduces the students to the field of postcolonial theory and literature. The second section investigates the development of postcolonial theory. The third section explores  Orientalism and representation. The fourth section examines subalternity and agency. The last section inspects hybridity, mimicry, and ambivalence.

The practical part is concerned with the critical analysis of selected literary works covering prose, drama, and poetry  by writers from the Third World and writers of subordinated cultures in Britain and the USA.
