This introductory course oriented to 3rd year students of English provides a theoretical and practical study of ESP. It tackles the related areas of ESP, starting with its delineation, origins, charcteristics, types, branches and it attempts as well to highlight some similarities and sheds the light on the major differences between ESP and EGP. Moreover, the ESP deveopment stages are presented with a detailed illustration.
Course Objectives: At the end of this course, learners will be able to
1. understand the different concepts discussed in ESP,
2. recognise the situation of ESP in Algeria.
